BCU 1* Course in Kayaking

                  

Kayaking is one of the most exciting, affordable and versatile water sports available. This is a nationally recognised two day course, designed as an introduction to paddle sport (kayaks & canoes).

You’ll cover the fundamental skills leaving you in a fantastic position to get more from your time on the water. The emphasis of the course is on safe practice, fun and enjoyment.

The course covers the following:

  • Getting on and off a boat correctly
  • Correct balance
  • Correct use of the paddle
  • Moving the boat forwards, backwards and sideways
  • Stopping
  • Turning the boat without losing balance
  • Correct use of equipment
  • Basic rescue techniques
  • Correct carrying of boat
  • Health & Safety
  • Correct securing of equipment onto vehicle

Who it's for:

You need no experience of paddle sports; just a healthy sense of adventure! The course is aimed at the complete novice who has an interest in learning the basic skills and principals of canoeing and kayaking.

You will need:

  • Lunch and snacks
  • Drinks bottle
  • Waterproofs
  • Warm flexible clothing
  • Old trainers to get wet A complete change of clothes and a towel (kayaking is a wet sport, you will get wet!)

BCU 2* Course in Kayaking

This fantastic course will give you a great understanding of the breadth of paddle sports as well as a good grounding in the basic techniques (canoes & kayaks). The course is nationally recognised in training and a possible assessment. The emphasis of the course is on safe practise, fun and enjoyment.

What it will cover:

  • Theory & Safety Considerations
  • Equipment Boat handling
  • Supports & braces Rescues

Who it's for:

Prior experience is essential as you need to be comfortable capsizing and paddling on flat water. The course is aimed at those at or above the one star standard. You will require a reasonable level of fitness to get the most out of your course. This is a very detailed course, so please consider your course days as a full training opportunity.

What you will need:

You will need to be fit enough to last full days of activity. We supply all the equipment you require. Bring along warm layers to paddle in, fleece material and wool are the best. Packed Lunches, snacks and drinks to keep energy levels up, and hats and sun cream if it's a hot weekend.
